Kim, Wahid Agree On Joint Projects

JAKARTA - President Kim Dae-jung and President Abdurrahman Wahid of Indonesia agreed Tuesday on joint development of Indonesia's natural resources, such as liquefied natural gas and lumber, in a bilateral meeting held at the Presidential Palace.

The two leaders also agreed to actively review the Indonesian telecommunications sector adopting code division multiple access, a telecommunications technology which South Korea is a leading producer of.

They also discussed operation of the Kia-Timor car factory, which has been producing 2,000 cars a month since June.

After Mr. Kim and Mr. Wahid met, twelve members of the Indonesian cabinet were invited to present an array of economic cooperation projects, presidential aides said.

After the meeting, Governor You Jong-keun of North Cholla province and the leader of greater Jakarta exchanged a memorandum of understanding that the Indonesian capital will purchase 20,000 Daewoo cars over the next three years to be used as taxis.

Mr. Kim returns to Korea on Wednesday, winding up a seven-day trip to Southeast Asia, including participation in the ASEAN Plus 3 conference in Singapore.
