Nogun-ri 'Regrets' By Clinton Studied

President Bill Clinton is likely to express regret for the U.S. Army's role in the Nogun-ri shooting of civilians early in the Korean War, a South Korean government official said Wednesday.

During talks last week in Washington, the South Korean delegation urged that the U.S. president express his official regret. Members of the U.S. delegation replied that they will "look into it."

"It looks like President Bill Clinton will express regret around Jan. 10 before his term ends, as the U.S. delegation did not react negatively to our demand," the official said on condition of anonymity.

While South Korea wants Mr. Clinton to express regret on television, the United States is looking into issuing a statement of regret signed by the president.
