Price Cut Offered On Patriot Missiles

Raytheon of the United States said Thursday that it could reduce the price of its Patriot missiles and could transfer up to 90 percent of its technology to the South Korean government.

Controversy emerged recently after it was reported that Raytheon requested prices 20 percent higher than those Greece paid for the missile interceptors. The company is the single bidder for the 2 trillion won ($1.6 billion) project, called SAM-X.

The company, which sent a letter to the JoongAng Ilbo, said, "Our position was delivered to South Korea's Defense Ministry last week. The amount of price that will be decreased will be set through negotiations."

The Defense Ministry said Thursday that it would reconsider its SAM-X military project if "price conditions" are not met.
