Four U.S. Senators To Visit Pyongyang

Four Repulican U.S. senators will visit North Korea Monday, the U.S. Embassy in Seoul reported Friday.

Senators Phil Gramm of Texas, Jim Bunning of Kentucky, Michael Crapo of Idaho, and Bob Bennett of Utah will visit Pyongyang at the invitation of the North Korean Foreign Affairs Ministry. They will discuss U.S.-North Korea relations with Kim Yong Nam, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly; tour nearby power plants in order to assess the electricity situation in the North, and meet with representatives of U.S. aid agencies to determine the food situation.

The visit marks the first congressional-level encounter between the North and the United States since the Bush administration took office.
