Korea Joins Regime To Control Missiles

South Korea will join the global Missile Technology Control Regime next week, a Foreign Ministry official said Wednesday.

"South Korea will officially become an MTCR member at a Paris meeting on March 26 and 27," the official said. "After a missile deal was reached with the United States in January, an application to join the regime was submitted at the French Foreign Ministry."

The Missile Technology Control Regime, which has 32 members, was launched in 1987 by the United States. Its provisions would ban South Korea from exporting parts and technology related to missiles with a range above 300 kilometers (180 miles) and warheads heavier than 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds) to non-member countries.
