Have a Credit Card, No Nosy Questions
Green Consumers Network (www.gcn.or.kr) reported Tuesday that most of the credit card companies that enroll members on streets carelessly issue cards without checking consumers' identifications.According to an investigation by the civic group, of 41 Seoul concession stands that accept credit card applications, none asked applicants first to show identification cards.
Some 95 percent of the group issued cards without checking IDs at all, while 10 places accepted applications when people simply stated their residential registration numbers. And more than 85 percent provided gifts such as umbrellas or clocks to lure more customers.
An official at the consumer network said the practices invited "a lot of illegal activities."
