Regulators Aim At Unfair Stock Transactions

Measures to root out unfair trading activities on the nation's major stock exchange will be prepared during the first half of this year, officials from the government and the Korea Stock Exchange said Thursday. They also promised a more transparent corporate disclosure system for investors.

The officials, including representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Financial Supervisory Service, said they already have begun drawing up plans for intensive scrutiny of unfair trading activities and to improve the corporate disclosure system. "Together with related government agencies, we are planning to come up with new plans so we can take prompt action on suspected unfair trading," the finance ministry official said. "If the number of unfair stock trades are diminished, this will bring vitality to the stock exchange, and this will help companies secure capital," the ministry official said.
