Media Competition Watchers Resign
The Korean Newspaper Association's fair competition committee announced Tuesday that all of its five members will resign their posts because their independence will no longer be guaranteed after the government imposes new newspaper distribution and advertising regulations. The fair competition committee is the leading self-regulatory group within the association, and has members from inside and outside the media.
"With our self-regulation system, we made a lot of progress," said Choi Hak-rae, the chairman of the association. "But it is meaningless to have a system of self-regulation now that the government is reviving its regulations on newspapers."
