U.S. Officials Set Seoul Visit May 9

Richard Armitage, deputy secretary of state, and James Kelly, assistant secretary of state-designate for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, will visit Seoul on May 9 and 10, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced Thursday.

"They will pay a courtesy call on President Kim Dae-jung and will meet with Foreign Minister Han Seung-soo and other officials in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministries to exchange opinions on the Bush administration's policy toward the North and the U.S. plans for missile defense," said a government official.

"We plan to discuss pending issues such as the provision of electricity to the North and the reduction of conventional weapons in the North," the official added.
