One Member Objects To EU Ties With North
BRUSSELS - The European Union may postpone establishing diplomatic relations with North Korea, a diplomatic source said Friday.The source said that a country had requested that the recognition, originally planned to take effect Monday, be discussed further. It did not disclose which country had requested the delay.
The European Union Commission had planned to announce the establishment of ties with the North by Saturday midnight if there had been no objections.
Normalization of relations between the European Union and the North had been discussed during the visit in early May of the Union's president, Goran Persson, to the North.
North Korean human rights and economic delegations are expected to visit Europe in July or August.
