2 Koreas' Officials Meet Over Dinner

Representatives of North and South Korea held an unofficial dinner meeting Wednesday on the eve of a gathering of senior officials of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Choi Young-jin, deputy foreign minister for policy planning and international organizations, spoke with Ri Young-ho, a North Korean Foreign Ministry official.

Mr. Ri told the press, "The attitude of the United States is so hard-line that it obstructs inter-Korean dialogue." He added, "The timing of the dialogue will be decided after watching the attitude of the United States."

The two-day ASEAN meeting opened Thursday. Vice ministers of 23 member states deliberated issues related to regional security. The proposed U.S. missile defense shield was expected to be discussed.
