State's Assets Up $9.3 Trillion

Total government assets rose by 12 trillion won ($9.3 trillion) last year, the Finance Ministry said Tuesday.

The value of government property totaled 175.9 trillion won at the end of last year, up 7.9 percent from the previous year. Increases of 6.6 trillion won in securities, 3.8 trillion won in land and 1.8 trillion won in buildings accounted for the rise, the ministry said.

The securities total was boosted by a bond purchase of 500 billion won for the planned high-speed railway and an 800 billion won investment in Korea Water Resources Corporation. Land purchases pushed the government-owned total up by 102 square kilometers.
