The Financial Supervisory Commission will encourage local financial institutions to focus on profitability as part of the nation's reform of its financial sector.Lee Keun-young, the commission's chairman, said Wednesday that financial institutions should expand their profit bases by readjusting commission rates through complete cost analyses, securing proper deposit-loan margins and forming partnerships.
"Financial institutions should expand information technology investments," he said. "But the investments should be made efficiently through partnerships on computer systems to prevent investment overlap."
