Futures Trading Rises Sharply

The trading of contracts in the local futures market increased by 370 percent in the first six months of this year, the Korea Futures Exchange said Thursday.

An average 34,497 contracts a day were traded on the domestic futures market during the first half, compared with 9,441 contracts a year earlier, the exchange said.

The exchange attributed the sharp rise in futures transactions to the government's measures to boost the trading of government bond futures. The daily trading volume of government bond futures jumped to 24,672 contracts in the January-June period from 5,282 deals a year earlier.
