Banks Cut Branches, Add ATMs
Commercial banks cut the number of their branches in the first half, while adding automated teller machines to reduce operating expenses, officials in the banking sector said Monday.According to industry officials, commercial banks operated 10,383 automated teller machines at the end of June, up 612 from the end of last December.
The number of commercial banks' branches in the nation stood at 4,398 on June 30, down 33 from half a year earlier. Chohung Bank's branches declined 18 to 445 at the end of June. Kookmin Bank and Hanvit Bank reduced 16 and 14 branches, respectively.
