One Plus One Is 1.3 Million, One Buyer Believes

How much are two 1,000 won bills (77 cents each) worth? A domestic online auction firm, Auction, said the answer is 1.3 million won ($1,000).

The firm said Monday that a set of two attached 1,000 won notes was sold to an unidentified buyer at an auction in cooperation with the Bank of Korea. The notes were among 1,000 bills issued in celebration of the foundation of a money museum by the nation's central bank on June 13.

This is the first time, the central bank said, that it has sold uncut currency. The price fetched by the two bills at auction was mostly because this was the first set; in the future, the museum will sell more uncut notes to raise funds for the museum. The bank said the proceeds from the initial auction will be donated to charity.
