New 5,000 Won Bills to Debut

The Bank of Korea will issue new 5,000 won ($3.80) bills beginning next June, with changes to preclude counterfeit currency.

The new bills will keep the same design and measurements of current bills, but will have the same silver line that marks the 10,000 won bills, to prevent counterfeit production by means of color photocopies.

The bill will be intaglio-printed, allowing for finer coloring in design. The bill will also have larger Braille print for the visually impaired.
