Kim Asks Koreans Not to Sell Stocks

President Kim Dae-jung proposed Tuesday a nationwide campaign to persuade Koreans not to sell and buy stock in a bid to overcome the expected economic crisis in the aftermath of terrorist attacks in the United States.

"If you find the thought rational, let us work on it and propose it to the people to have them participate in the efforts to overcome the crisis," Mr. Kim said at a cabinet meeting.

He noted that people are well aware of the direct negative effects the terrorist attacks are having on the Korean economy, and said he was no longer sure that it will recover at the end of this year or the beginning of next.

"At the front line, military security should be consolidated and in the back, an anti-terrorism system should be built so that people may live feeling secure," Mr. Kim said.
