Two leaders to confer, travel to border areas

U.S. President George W. Bush will arrive in Seoul on Tuesday afternoon, after completing his schedule in Japan. He will stay in Korea until Thursday, but his official activities are tightly booked on Wednesday. The Blue House refused to say where Mr. Bush would be housed.

Wednesday's schedule begins with an official welcoming ceremony at the Blue House in the morning, followed by an 80-minute summit meeting with South Korean President Kim Dae-jung. Fewer than eight advisers from each side will join the latter part of the meeting, a source from South Korea's Foreign Ministry said.

At a joint press conference Mr. Bush and Mr. Kim will summarize the outcome of their meeting and take questions from reporters.

Mr. Bush will visit U.S. troops stationed along the border between the South and the North, have his lunch with American soldiers and deliver a speech.

In the afternoon the two presidents will visit Dorasan Station near the Demilitarized Zone. Both will make speeches; Mr. Kim will speak for six minutes and Mr. Bush for 10 minutes.

Mr. Bush will attend only the first 20 minutes of a 50-minute reception hosted by South Korea's presidential couple at the Blue House guesthouse. Some 120 South Korean and American figures have been invited. The two presidents will duck out early, then meet again over dinner with only a few advisers present. The presidential dinner will serve as a second summit meeting.

Mr. Bush will depart for Beijing early Thursday morning.
