Have no fear, folks; it's just an exercise

Air-raid drills will be conducted in World Cup host cities and the capital region from 10:50 a.m. until noon Wednesday, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said Tuesday.

Military authorities will deploy F-4E fighter jets and 500MD helicopters during the drill, and advised civilians to enjoy the show, not be alarmed.

In Seoul and its vicinity, one F-4E fighter jet will play the role of an enemy fighter, flying twice from Uijeongbu over Miari in Seoul and then to Yeouido over the Seongsu bridge.

"The drill will have no effect on civilians' lives in the city," a Defense Ministry spokesman said. No troops will be mobilized for the drill, he added.

The drill is a part of the nation's joint annual military air defense exercise. The Wednesday drill will focus on radar capabilities and surface-to-air and air-to-air defense. The air force will have the lead role in the drill.
