Downed F-16 had fuel feed problem

A malfunction in the fuel system caused last month's crash of an F-16 fighter jet, the Korean Air Force said Wednesday.

At a briefing for the National Assembly, Lieutenant General Lee Han-ho, the air force operations commander, said the U.S.-built warplane went down after a malfunction cut the fuel supply to its engine, according to the flight recorder of the downed aircraft. "We will conclude our examination by the end of this month," he said.

The air force said the KF-16s built in Korea use a modified fuel system different from the one in the ill-fated jet. The air force has resumed flights of the KF-16.

General Lee said Seoul would negotiate with the fuel system and engine manufacturers on compensation.
