Again, North brings machine gun to DMZ
A Ministry of Defense official said North Koreans brought a machine gun inside the Demilitarized Zone again yesterday. The United Nations Command will begin an investigation of the apparent violation of a Sept. 17 agreement between the two Koreas and the Korean War armistice, the official said.North Korean soldiers have been in the area to work on the foundation for the proposed linking of a railway between Seoul and Sinuiju. South Korean forces first observed the North's personnel bringing in the machine guns on Dec. 13.
The North has denied the guns were heavy weapons prohibited by the agreement.
The UN Command's investigation will verify the nature of the guns and make a protest to the North Korean representative, the South Korean defense official said.
