Mobile carriers lose subscribers

New subscribers to the three mobile carriers in Korea shrank an average of 87,000 per firm, from the end of November until the end of December. The hardest hit was KTF Co., whose subscribers decreased by160,000. During the same period, SK Telecom Co., the largest carrier, saw the increase of about 70,000. For LG TeleCom Co., the number of subscribers increased about 7,000. "We shed off delinquent subscribers at the end of the last year," a KTF official said. "Suspensions from signing up new customers also has contributed." As a punishment for illegal mobile handset subsidization, the government banned KTF from recruiting new subscribers from Dec. 21 to Jan. 9.
