Bond stirs some here but shakes others

Protesters say they will picket all 145 theatres screening the 20th Century Fox Film "007: Die Another Day" on Jan. 11, but they may be too late to catch the bulk of the theatergoers attracted either by the James Bond mystique or this episode's particular notoriety in Korea. The film opened here on Tuesday, and viewers seem to be divided in their opinions about the film, which features a diabolical North Korea and a somewhat backward-appearing South Korea. While some activists and viewers complained, others shrugged and said, "It's just a movie." Pickets also appeared at two Seoul theaters on opening day, but 20th Century Fox Korea said it was not concerned. In the first two days of screening, 58,100 tickets were sold in Seoul and 195,000 nationwide. "The two-day figure is not bad at all," a company official said.
