Price of key chip falls below $6
The spot prices of Double Data Rate dynamic random access memory chips fell below $6 yesterday for the first time in six months. According to Dram Exchange, an online memory chip commerce site, the price of 256 megabit chip fell 0.8 percent from the previous day to $5.98. DRAM producers, such as Micron Technology, Hynix, and Infineon, have stepped up the productions during the last two months, and buyers have shunned the memory chips because of their high prices, analysts said. Jeong Chang-won, an analyst at Daewoo Securities, forecast that the market situation will change in the second quarter, when faster chips of this type will hit the market.
