Multinationals' research on rise
Korea Industrial Technology Association said yesterday that multinational firms had established 124 research and development institutions by December 2002. These include major multinational technology firms Microsoft Corp., Motorola Inc., IBM Corp. and Nokia. By industry, information and technology institutions topped on the list, accounting for 40 percent, followed by chemistry and machinery laboratories for R&D. "Global information technology firms are rushing into the country as Korea has emerged as the No. 1 nation in mobile communication and wireless Internet service," an official at the association said.
