New computer virus detected

Hauri Inc., an anti-virus software producer, announced yesterday that major Internet service providers had detected a “Code Red II Worm” spreading through domestic servers. The Code Red II Worm is a new variant of the Code Red Worm that attacked servers in the United States White House in 2001. It allows hackers to place a trojan horse, “explorer.exe” file, on the computer’s hard drive and remotely control it over the Internet. The most obvious sign a computer or server is infected is erratic behavior and a slowdown in network speed. Hauri has advised Internet users and service providers using Windows NT or Windows 2000 to download a security patch available on Microsoft Corp.’s Web site.
