Flaw found in Microsoft Web servers
The Ministry of Information and Communication yesterday issued a warning to server managers that a security hole had been found in Microsoft’s IIS (Internet Information System) integrated into Windows 2000 servers. The information ministry said a hacker could gain control or paralyze Web servers by taking advantage of the vulnerability in the IIS. The ministry urged server managers to download and install Windows 2000 patch programs from Microsoft at www.microsoft.com. Cha Yang-sin, a chief of information security in the information ministry, quoted Microsoft Korea estimates that there are 15,000 to 20,000 Windows 2000 servers integrated with IIS in Korea. “Huge damages could occur, taking into account server managers in Korea are not that aware of software patches,” Mr. Cha said.
