Korea is tops in computer bugs

Among the five-most advanced countries steeped in information technology, Korea has the highest rate of computer virus infections, the Japanese daily Yomiuri Shimbun reported yesterday. The paper cited a report compiled by the Information-Technology Promotion Agency under the Japanese Ministry of Finance, Trade and Industry. The rate of computer virus infections in Korea over the past year was 63.3 percent, according to the report. Taiwan was second with 41.1 percent, Japan third with 35.4 percent, the United States fourth with 26.7 percent and Germany last with 12.8 percent. A Japanese official said high rates of infection were the result of low virus awareness and protective measures.
