Also this month, Jeffrey Immelt, chief executive of U.S.-based General Electric Corp., and Niall Fitzgerald, chairman of British-based Unilever PLC, will visit Korea. Lee Kun-hee, chairman of Samsung Group, will leave for the United States this weekend. Mr. Lee will meet local political and business figures while there, including Craig Berrett, chief executive of Intel Corp., to discuss expanding investments in Korea. Koo Bon-moo, chairman of LG Group, departure on May 11 for the United States, accompanied by John Koo, chairman of LG Electronics Inc., and Lee Youn-ho, president of the LG Economic Research Institute. Koo Bon-moo will meet Alan McCollough, chairman of Circuit City Inc., a large retailer of consumer electronics during Mr. Koo’s U.S. visit to discuss business cooperation. Son Kil-seung, chairman of SK Group and president of the Federation of Korean Industries, and Hyun Myung-kwan, vice chairman of the federation, depart Seoul on May 11 to take part in the U.S. meetings on economic cooperation. Chung Mong-koo, chairman of Hyundai Motor Co., and Cho Suck-rai, chairman of Hyosung Group, also plan to visit the United States. Mr. Chung will meet business and political figures there, and look around the company’s factory construction sites in Alabama. Meanwhile, Mr. Fitzgerald of Unilever will visit Korea on May 14, and Mr. Immelt of General Electric is scheduled to arrive here on May 21. Their visits are drawing much attention, since they are taking place amid the severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, epidemic and uncertainty over issues regarding North Korea’s nuclear program. by Kim Jong-yoon
