Seoul to seek meeting of separated families

The South Korean Red Cross will propose a seventh reunion of Korean families separated by the Korean War to its North Korean counterpart today.
The proposed reunion would be held at Mount Geumgang, a North Korean resort, from June 19 through June 24. One hundred South Koreans would be reunited with their North Korean relatives for three days beginning June 19, and in turn 100 North Koreans would meet with their South Korean relatives for three days beginning June 22.
Yesterday, the Red Cross selected 300 potential candidates for the reunion session in a random drawing. From this pool, 100 finalists will be selected.
North Korean agreement is not being taken for granted, however. The North has already suspended several contacts and exchanges with South Korea, citing the fear of introducing SARS, severe acute respiratory syndrome, into the country.
