&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#934 hours gone with no help at hospital

My mother missed her appointment with a doctor at a university hospital. I explained the situation by phone; a receptionist said she could see the doctor if she arrived before 10 a.m.
We got there at 9 a.m., and the nurse said there were more than 100 patients who had appointments; the wait would be up to two hours. But, the nurse said, my mother could see the doctor before lunch, which was fine with us. For the next hour and a half, the nurse kept telling us to wait a little more because her chart had just arrived. Then, just after noon, the doctors left their offices.
We had waited four hours for nothing. There is surely a problem with a general hospital that accepts more than 100 patients in a three-hour period, but the nurse really upset us and did not even apologize.
