I visited Soraksan National Park with my family last Friday. At a ticket office run by the Korea National Parks Authority, I paid 2,800 won to get an admission ticket.
But the fee to enter the park was actually 1,300 won, and additional 1,500 won, was for viewing a cultural property, an old-temple called Shinheungsa, located at the mouth of Mount Sorak.
I can't deny the value of Shinheungsa as an important cultural asset, and there must be management expenses required to keep it intact. But whether or not a tourist wants to visit the temple makes no difference in the fixed entrance fee. My family had no intention of visiting the temple, although we had to pay for it, and that’s unfair.
