[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Informant was betrayed
A few days ago, I saw a factory spewing black smoke into the sky in South Gyeongsang province. I reported the scene to a policeman, who wrote down my name and telephone number, saying he would call me later if he needed my testimony. The next day, a man who claimed to be the factory owner called me up and asked me to retract my report. I asked how he got my phone number, and he hesitantly said, “The police informed me.” Police should protect private information of informants. If the owner had retaliated against me, would the police have taken responsibility? If the police can’t protect informants, how can citizens report illegal activities?by ID:korea2798
