NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

“Passageway-Overgoing”by Wolfgang Laib, a world-renowned installation artist, shows the incorporation of Eastern philosophies with minimalism, wherein objects in their innate geometric form are presented in an impersonal manner. The artist hints at a cultural accordance of East and West.

JANGSAHANG SQUID-CATCHING FESTIVAL

To Thursday: Jangsahang hosts an annual squid-catching festival, celebrating one of the most-loved side dishes in Korea. A squid-catching contest ― with bare hands ― a tug-of-war and singing contests are just a few of the events. Fresh seafood will also be dished out for the festival’s duration. Application fee is 10,000 won ($8.40) for adults and 5,000 won for children.

NAMYANG OPEN ARTS FESTIVAL 2003

From Aug. 8 to 17: The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Gyeonggi province co-sponsor this festival, aimed at promoting local culture as well as bringing together local residents and visitors. The event lineup includes musical performances, workshops, seminars and participatory activities. Organic produce to promote local agriculture is sold.
