GYEONGJU WORLD CULTURE EXPO

From Aug. 13 to Sept. 23: Leaders of North Gyeongsang province will host an international festival with artists and spectators from around the world that celebrates the diversity of cultures. The event lineup includes song and dance performances, a poetry contest, pottery-making and a parade. Forums and discussions will also take place.

YEOSU YOUTH FESTIVAL

From Friday to Aug. 20: To promote fellowship among young people, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and South Jeolla province’s Office of Education co-sponsor a festival geared at teenagers from Korea and abroad. Gaming contests, live music and dance and sports competitions will take place.

GALLERY LA MER

To August 12: “Uncanny.” A collection of modern paintings made using familiar materials, but each with an element of the unfamiliar, crude, eccentric or grotesque. The works show our surroundings in ways we are not likely to think about. Also at the gallery, eight artists come together under the theme “Inner Introspection,” with paintings, sculpture, installation works and multimedia art meant to provoke contemplation and inner examination.
