Some cell phones are dinosaurs

Mobile phones with black-and-white displays, the stars of the opening of the cell phone age, are being withdrawn from the domestic market, pushed out by those high-resolution color displays. Both Samsung and LG Electronics are discontinuing the production of monochrome units sold in Korea, but will continue making them for export. In a press statement, Samsung Electronics said it had sold 591,000 mobile phones with color displays in July in the local market, capturing just over half that market. Sales of Samsung mobile phone with black-and-white displays dropped to 11 percent in January, 6 percent in March and to under 4 percent in June. LG Electronics said 60 percent of its exports were of mobile phones with black-and-white displays, but only one in 10 Korean buyers of LG handsets favored them.
