Busan, North Korea set up economic ties

Busan and North Korea exchanged letters of intent for a series of economic projects, a spokesman of Busan city government said yesterday.
The mayor of Busan, Ahn Sang-young, and other city officials returned from the North Sunday. During a five-day visit, they met with North Korean officials including Kim Yong-dae, chairman of the National Reconciliation Council, and Jong Un-op, chairman of the National Economic Cooperation Federation.
The two sides agreed Busan firms would build a food processing plant in the North and would jointly operate fish farms and other fisheries projects.
Busan and the North also will consider opening new maritime routes for refrigeration ships between the South Korean port city and the North’s Wonsan and Nampo harbors.
