ALTERNATIVE SPACE POOL

To Sept. 30: “Mioon.” Kim Min’s and Choi Moon’s joint video installation places viewers into positions of active involvement or passive observance, examining collectivism in society through the loss of individual identity. “Karaoke Project #1” is the exhibition’s featured piece.

SEJONG GALLERY

To Sept. 29: “Mo Yong Soo.” This exhibition presents works made from Korean natural resources, expressing both humor and innocence. Familiar scenes of nature are rendered using mother-of-pearl on Korean paper.

To Sunday: “Gwacheon Hanmadang Festival.” This cultural festival features a wide range of events, from contemporary dance to a performance of Shakespeare’s “Othello”; from the mime Lee Du-seong to a tightrope act, as well as a performance of “Titanic,” pictured above, using 30 tons of water.

ILMIN MUSEUM OF ART

Vivid colors and bizarre eccentricity epitomize “Crash,” a solo show by the artist Lee Dong-gi. His fictional character, dubbed Atomouse after the two characters it imitates ― Korean superhero Atom and Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse ― represents clashing forces in society, such as popular versus traditional culture.

SEOUL MUSEUM OF ART

“MosaiCanada: Sign and Sound,” is a collaboration with the Canadian Embassy. The artists’ works inspire visitors to consider the meaning of foreignness, of being an outsider versus insider and how concepts of exterior and interior space are negotiated.
