Samsung 2d in cell phone ranks

Samsung Electronics Co. rose to second in sales in the Asian mobile phone market, excluding Japan, Data Quest, a market research firm in the United States, said yesterday. According to the company, Samsung accounted for 16 percent of the mobile phone market in Asia in the second quarter of this year. The company surpassed the 13 percent market share of Motorola Co. of United States. The Motorola had ranked second for years, following the market leader Nokia of Finland. Nokia’s market share for the second quarter was 32 percent. Samsung had been the third-place seller of mobile phones in Asia since 2001. The company held 14 percent of total sales in the market that year, moving up to a 16 percent share last year.
