Koreans out in force at Comdex

LAS VEGAS ― With more than 50 technology start-ups from Korea opening their booths, Comdex 2003, one of the largest information technology fairs in the world, opened in Las Vegas on Monday. Information security was the theme of the fair, as countries around the world have been suffering from network attacks by viruses and floods of spam mail. Microsoft showcased an artificial intelligence software program that screens spam mail automatically and a program with stepped-up features in blocking hacking attempts or infiltration by computer viruses. IDC, a global market researcher, predicts that the security market, which was worth $2.7 billion last year, will grow to $6.4 billion by 2007. From Korea, more than 50 information technology upstarts set up their own booths in the Las Vegas convention center. “We aim to win 20 percent more export orders from last year,” said Park Ik-gi, head of the international business team at the Korea Software Industry Association. “We hope Comdex will be an opportunity for our company to set foot in the U.S. market,” said Paik Eui-hyeong, from Pixel Plus, a company that produces a core component of mobile handsets. by Cho Min-guen
