Net becomes a second-hand shop for many online sellers

Internet Web sites for commerce in used goods have emerged as a rare bull market in the midst of the domestic economic slowdown in Korea. Find Used and the used goods section of Auction are the most widely known among such Web sites. They report that compared to earlier this year, the number of goods registered for sale has risen sharply. At Find Used, 34,000 second-hand products were registered for sale in January. The figure ballooned to 71,000 in October and for November through last Tuesday, it had risen to over 75,000. At the used goods site of Auction, the number of registered items for sale has doubled over the pace of early this year. Most of the used goods on the Find Used site are home appliances or clothes. “The numbers of those who want to sell luxury clothes, such as fur-lined suede coats, have increased in particular,” said an official from Find Used. “I am a college student. I incurred debts while trying to make money to pay my tuition, and so am putting up my motorcycle. I bought it second-hand,” read one of the notices posted on the Web site. At Auction, the most frequently offered items are used baby clothes, baby beds and toys. According to the company, an average of 1,400 used products have been registered daily in November, double the pace in the beginning of the year. “The trend is that you pamper your babies because most families now have only one baby. So people tend to use new products for their babies. But used goods are also popular,” said an official from Auction. Putting up products for sale at Find Used is free, but if a user wants to post a photo, he pays an advertisement fees ranging from 5,000 won ($4.15) to 18,000 won. At Auction, a user has to pay a registration fee for posting products ―400 to 3,500 won. by Kwon Hyeok-joo
