Seoul to rethink plans for wireless Internet

Facing pressure from the Washington, the Korean government said yesterday that it would rethink its plan to adopt a common standard for wireless Internet platform interoperability. The domestically developed standard was being pushed as an industrywide standard here, although Seoul had told U.S. trade officials that the adoption of the standard was an industry initiative. A foreign ministry official said Korea would consider whether it could allow a competing standard developed by the U.S. company Qualcomm to coexist here.
