Intel to establish R&D center in Seoul

Intel Corp., the largest semiconductor company in the world, has finalized its plan to build a research and development center in the Seoul metropolitan area, that will employ 20 researchers. The company signed a contract yesterday with Korea’s Electronics and Telecommunications Research Center to jointly develop technologies in home networking and home automation with wireless telecommunications technologies. During his meeting with Craig Barret, chief executive of Intel, in the United States in May last year, President Roh Moo-hyun first proposed that the company establish a research and development center in Korea. A senior official from the information ministry said that a total of six research centers will be established in the country this year by foreign-based technology firms, including one by IBM.
