LG phones picked for 3G mobile service
Hutchison Whampoa selected LG Electronics as the supplier of mobile phone handsets for the third-generation mobile communications service it is providing in Europe and Hong Kong, LG said yesterday. Until now, it mostly used cellular phones made by NEC and Motorola. LG will provide 3 million handsets this year, which will begin selling in Italy for 199 euro ($242). The handsets support moving images as well as transmission of digital multimedia. Hutchison is owned by the famed Chinese billionaire Li Ka-shing.
