Hynix named in suit by U.S. chip designer
Rambus Inc., a U.S. semiconductor chip designer, filed an antitrust lawsuit against Korea-based Hynix Semiconductor Inc., the U.S.-based Micron Technology Inc., Germany-based Infineon Technologies AG and Siemens AG. In a suit filed with the Superior Court of California on Wednesday, Rambus said the chipmakers conspired to prevent Rambus’ patented dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip technology from being able to compete fairly in the market. A spokesman for Hynix said, “Rambus is harassing DRAM makers after its business started having difficulties.” The dispute began in 1995, when the chipmakers began to produce their own DRAMs.
