KT is launching home network service

KT said it will begin a commercial home networking service today. The country’s largest fixed line telecom company said users will be able to view videos on demand based on a high-speed Internet connection. The service also allows subscribers to keep surveillance on their homes by using small digital cameras that are linked to the network, and to search for information or use simple messaging services through television. The service has been undergoing pilot tests since March in Bundang, Gyeonggi province, and the Mokdong neighborhood in western Seoul. KT will begin commercial service first in the metropolitan area and then expand services nationwide. Video on demand service will cost 16,000 won ($13.85) per month and home-viewing service 4,000 won per month. Basic equipment that must be installed prior to using the service costs about 400,000 won.
