More tech openings proposed for women
Female science technicians in government-funded research institutions should be granted more opportunities for promotion, and more women should be recruited to such institutions, the government proposed yesterday. Under orders from President Roh Moo-hyun, 13 government departments, including the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Defense Ministry reviewed 14 science and technology issues yesterday. The review suggested that a fixed ratio of women be promoted each year, and the percentage of females recruited to 99 government-funded research institutions should be increased from the current 10.5 percent to 30 percent by 2010. The government hopes that its proposal will also be mirrored in the private sector.
