Hynix regains spot as No. 2 maker of computer memory chips

Hynix Semiconductor Inc. overtook Micron Technology Inc. as the world’s second-largest maker of computer memory chips during the second quarter, market researchers Gartner Inc. and Isuppli Corp. said. Hynix’s revenue from selling computer memory known as dynamic random access memory, or DRAM, rose to $1.1 billion, accounting for 17.1 percent of a market that expanded to the highest level in four years, according to Gartner. Micron had 15.3 percent of the market as Hynix regained the No. 2 position for the first time since 1999, Gartner said. Samsung Electronics Co. retained the top spot with 29.7 percent.
