Haansoft chosen to develop Korean ‘Asianux’

Computer software developer Haansoft Inc. has been selected as the Korean partner in a Northeast Asian alliance of firms developing a standard applications platform for Northeast Asia. At a ceremony at COEX in southern Seoul yesterday, the company signed a contract with companies from China and Japan for the joint development of Asianux, a version of Linux that supports and unites all three languages. The development of Asianux is supported by the three governments concerned. Until now, the software has been developed by Red Flag Software in China and Miracle Linux in Japan. The Korean firm will begin cooperation with its counterparts in developing the system in January. The companies will brand products with a sticker that reads “Asianux Inside.” “Korea’s Linux market is weak compared to other developed countries. We hope Asianux will invigorate the use of Linux here,” Haansoft said. by Wohn Dong-hee
